Vintage Year
The year in which a fund makes its first investment (or the year of final close, depending on convention).
Vintage year is the central organizing concept for private market benchmarking. Funds are compared to peers of the same vintage because macro and market conditions dominate cross-vintage comparisons.
Program-level diversification across vintages is the standard defense against timing risk.
