The third-party service provider that handles capital calls, distributions, NAV calculation, and investor reporting on behalf of a GP.
The administrator is a critical control for LPs. Reputable administrators - the top-five players hold most institutional fund assets - reduce the probability of NAV misstatement and provide an independent layer between the GP and reported numbers.
Review administrator changes with the same care as a CFO change.
